What White's Creek Oraginc Farmer's Mkt has to offer this week!
Hello Farmers Market Friends!
July is officially here...Refreshing tomatoes, cucumbers, and blackberries all make the Nashville heat more tolerable! In a time when sunshine seems almost unbearable, the earth provides us with it's delicious bounty. Come out to the market this week and celebrate the mouth-watering gifts of summer with us! Enjoy fruits and vegetables that have been grown mindfully and lovingly without the use of chemical pesticides, have traveled less than 20 miles, and were picked fresh for you to enjoy full flavor and maximum nutrition.
Oh, yeah... and what's this about zuccinnis?? This week, be sure and bring your friends and family to The Great Monster Zucchini Weight Guessing Contest. Alicia and Bert and Hungry Gnome Farm have a zuccinni that grew out of control- you'll be amazed at how big this thing is, but you can't touch it or pick it up - you have to guess it's weight just from looking at it. Whoever's guess is closest to the actual weight will win the zucchini and take it home - it will come with an awesome Honey and Zucchini Bread recipe , which calls for honey and molasses instead of sugar. What a cool thing - to turn a vegetable into bread !! Or you could get up a neighborhood game of Zucchini softball, using the zucchini as a baseball bat. Use your imagination. Drawing will be at noon.
I am so happy to say that in our first month as a Farmers Market, we have grown to have a wonderful base of loyal customers who return week after week and we are grateful to each and every one of you. We enjoy meeting new people each week and it is so nice to talk with the people who are eating the food that we grow. Please be sure to check out our recipe binder for recipes to take home with you and try out. There are printed copies of recipes that showcase the vegetables that are being sold each week. Also, if you have a recipe that you would like to share please e-mail it to me so that we can make copies for other customers to try.

We still have Kenny's Farmhouse cheeses available in a variety of delectable flavors, made locally in South-Central Kentucky. As many of you can agree, he is a very talented cheesemaker. The Montery Jack is particularly good stuffed into Poblano Peppers with some tomatoes and grilled.
When Maria Brewer started selling her tye-dyed organic t-shirts and silks at the Whites Creek Farmers Market last month she had never sold her beautiful craft before. Now thanks to the market customers' supportive feedback, her fledgling business is booming! Check out her new website at www.spiralmarketdyeworks.blogspot.com Way to go Maria!
Exciting news from Alicia and Bert at Hungry Gnome:
"This week we will be offering local, raw honey from the hives of and extracted by Dan Whitley, one of our local Tennessee Beekeepers Association members. We watched Dan extract it and bottle it just this week. It was an amazing process to watch and the way Dan and his Tn. Beekeeper Association co-members were hovering over this honey and being so careful not to lose a drop, you would have thought it was gold. And I guess, in many ways, it is like gold - what else does nature offer so sweet and ready to eat? It was very exciting to eat the honey right off the comb. We also would grab a chunk of comb and chew it like chewing gum, sucking out all the honey, then discarding the remainder of the wax from the comb - wow, now that's a good chew !!!"
Please feel free to forward this e-mail to anyone and everyone. People who wish to recieve this weekly e-mail directly can send me an e-mail at nanwinkle76@yahoo.com.
Sadly, my family and I will not be at the market this Saturday, but Jason from Sonfarm will be selling our produce. We will be missing you and are hoping for another wonderful market :-) See you next week!
Be Well,
Nancy VanWinkle,
